Description
Taurasi is a characteristic area of Iprinia which gives its name to this important wine. Wandering through this area you cannot fail to notice the massive vineyards dedicated to growing the famous Aglianico grape, an important vine, that due to the high alcohol content produced in the process, lends itself very well to being aged longer in the bottle.
The Taurasi of Mastroberardino, uses a classic red wine process of maceration with the grape skins on (for around 25 days) at a controlled temperature. Aging takes place in French or Slovenian oak barrels for approximately 24 months, it then rests for at least another 24 months once bottled.
This lengthy process produces a complex and intense wine. The bouquet gives hints of cherry, violets, red berries and black pepper, characteristic of this wine.
Upon tasting you will experience a pleasantly tannic wine, with the elegant cherry and spice undertones shining through.
The Taurasi di Mastroberardino pairs perfectly with rich meat dishes, roasts, and heavier pasta sauces such as ragu. It also holds its own with mature cheeses, such as our own Provolone del Monaco.
Various Sommeliers and notable wine associations grade the Taurasi di Mastroberardino with a vote of between 90 and 93 out of 100.
