Here in the Gargiulo family we are constantly on the lookout for new ideas. And so, we came up with the idea of transforming the famous “Babà” cake, into a creamy irresistible liqueur. You can immediately taste the rum, and it’s a liquid version of the delicious world-famous dessert.
Although the Babà cake is now known as symbol of the City of Naples, its origins are further away. Back in the 1700’s, when the King of Poland, Stanislao Leszczynski, known for both his miserable character & love of good food, threw a traditional Polish cake against a shelf and thus broke a bottle of rum in the process, the rum soaked into the cake and aroma was so inviting that the King decided to try some! It turned out to be delicious!!
Another interesting fact about the dessert, is the name. King Stanislao was a passionate reader, with a particular love of the Arabic folk tales “A thousand and 1 nights” – with his favourite being the story of “Ali Babà & the 40 thieves”, and thus the name of this new cake was decided.
If at the end of your meals you are torn between have a dessert or an after-dinner liqueur, you need no longer have to make a decision – serve our delicious Babà liqueur, it’s the best of both worlds, all the flavour of the famous Partenope dessert in a liquid version!
